Welcome to Naterra and thank you for taking a look at our story and services.
Founded by ecologist Julie Phillips, with a passion for caring for this beautiful planet whilst recognising modern day human needs, Naterra exists to provide an alternative more natural yet affordable approach to personal care and wellness, including professional hairdressing services and a wonderful range of wellness products, all of which have great ethical and sustainability features as core values.
The underlying principle behind the whole of Naterra is to be ‘reciprocal in nature’, meaning that all of the products used are from highly ethical suppliers in terms of their environmental and social impacts as well as being supportive of your wellness and providing great results. The skin is the largest organ in the human body and products applied will soon be absorbed, it is therefore super important that the products we use are as natural and healthy as possible, whilst also being better for the environment.
Our hairdressing range is primarily sourced from Organic Colour Systems (OCS) which is a Certified B Corporation. Their products include a full range of professional hair colours, care and styling products. OCS is an eco conscious company, taking their social and environmental responsibility seriously. They use certified organic and natural ingredients as much as possible, resulting in their current range being 95% natural and 60% organic. Minimal synthetic ingredients are used and the range is free of many of the mainstream chemicals often used in hairdressing. See our services page for more information.
Naterra hairdressing services are built on years of hairdressing experience, both in salons and in a mobile capacity.
Our wellness range is provided by Weleda uk and Julie is proud to be a Weleda Wellness Advisor offering a large range of natural and organic cosmetics and homeopathic solutions. Like OCS, Weleda is also a Certified B Corporation with very strong commitment to social and environmental sustainability. Founded on biodynamic principles their product range focuses on organic and natural ingredients with sustainable production systems as an underlying foundation with many of their plant ingredients grown in their biodynamic garden here in Derbyshire.
With its roots in ecology, Naterra is closely aligned with the principles of both OCS and Weleda, and the additional element of subscribing to the recycling program of the Greener Salons Collective contributes to our commitment to providing healthy and sustainable services and products.
At Naterra, we’re proud to say that everything we do is respectful of nature, planet and people. Underpinning our services is the importance of ecology and caring for both environment and humankind, working with products and organisations that care. Julie as an ecologist, with her unique background and determination for respecting our planet means that this passion is built into the framework of Naterra, sourcing products and resources that are as natural and sustainable as possible whilst also being dependable and effective.

Julie Phillips and Naterra
Julie is the founder of Naterra, an ecologist, hairdresser and wellness advisor based on the edge of the Peak District just outside of Ashbourne, Derbyshire. She is committed to bringing wellness advice specific to people wanting to use natural life enhancing products that support the unfolding of health and beauty in the individual through working in harmony with nature and the human being.
Alongside Naterra, she currently works with Manor Farm Nursery as a plants person and ecologist. She also works closely with Blue Merle - a company dedicated to natural animal health.
